The Problem

  • A Cambridge based technical company needed some additional help across technical supply chain development and prototype part procurement

  • Prices quoted for prototype part manufacture where blocking project progress

  • The relationship with an existing contract manufacturer was not controlled by a dedicated contract

Our Research / approach?

  • We worked closely with the technical team to understand the specific technical requirements for the component parts and successfully recommended an alternative manufacturing approach at 1/20th the cost

  • We worked closely with the senior team and the contract manufacturer to set up a framework contract bringing the existing arrangements under close control and moving to more favourable payment terms.

Engineering & IP

  • We worked closely with the client and all IP generated was transferred to the client for their ongoing use.

Outcome

  • The client used the prototype parts to confirm a number of design requirements were met in advance of investment in significant production tooling.  Following this prototype work the project could proceed to manufacture at scale with technical risks fully mitigated.

  • The client is able to scale their manufacturing relationship on favourable commercial terms.
