Overview

Euthasafe is an collaborative, innovation-focused project aiming to improve safety and usability in veterinary euthanasia, supporting both animal welfare and the professionals who deliver care. Our engineered, app-controlled portable locking case helps professionals securely manage and transport medications, supporting protocol consistency, reinforcing accountability and enhancing overall drug safety.

The Problem

• Veterinary professionals face challenges securing and managing controlled substances.

• Current systems rely on physical keys and paper logs, which are prone to error.

• There was a need for a portable, secure, and compliant solution for clinic and field use.

Our Approach

• We conducted stakeholder interviews with veterinary professionals to understand operational challenges.

• We analysed regulatory requirements and clinical workflows to define system needs.

• Requirements included secure access, audit-ready record keeping, and portability.

System Design

• We developed a durable, waterproof case with app-controlled access using unique PINs.

• Prototypes were tested for robustness, usability, and portability in field conditions.

Engineering & IP

• Hardware and app were integrated to provide real-time, automatically updated access logs.

• All intellectual property generated was protected for the client’s ongoing use.

Field Trials

• The system was trialled in both clinic and mobile settings.

• Usability and durability were validated, and administrative time was reduced.

Outcome
